Involving Your Children in Interior Decorating
The need to decorate the interior of your home often hits even when you have little ones to raise. This at times can seem to be counter productive as children, especially very young kids, have a way of distracting from the natural flow of completing d?cor projects. One way to solve the problem is to get them involved rather than trying to keep them away. If you are doing something that a younger person cannot do, give them a similar project that they are old enough for. These experiences are ones kids (and you) will remember?and you are giving your children an opportunity to take pride in their endeavors. With a little creativity, you will find that many projects can involve your children. Another tip: decorative items such as tall trees and hanging baskets are difficult for small hands to get to or damage.
Creating a Centerpiece
If you would like to add some flowers to your home, consider creating a floral arrangement for a centerpiece. Centerpieces are usually placed on the dining room table, coffee table, or other prominent area in your home. Hopefully your centerpiece will not only draw attention, it will incorporate elements already in place in your house. Many centerpieces employ certain designs that cause the viewer to look at the whole picture. For instance, a flower centerpiece that has an X. pattern or direction causes viewers to their eyes from the top left to the bottom right and vice versa. Some arrangements do this by having long strands crossing in the middle. Arches are a completely different look that still cause you to look at the whole piece. There are many styles of centerpieces available, and one only needs to look around in the home, in magazines, or online to find some great centerpiece designing ideas.
Designing for Home Plants
As you begin to decorate your house with greenery, first decide on the size of the plants you plan to add. When you add plants to larger coffee tables and to dining room and kitchen tables, choose plants that are 1-2 feet high. Also, look for plants with broad leaves?they look flattering on plants of this size. When you are placing plants in a corner, you will want taller plants with elongated leaves, which lead the eye from top to bottom and back up. Guidelines like these help enhance the beauty of your home. Keep in mind that artificial plants have an advantage over their real-life counterparts in that you do not have to constantly water them, they do not attract bugs, and they last about three times longer.
